GALA Yuzawa is a ski resort you can reach straight from Tokyo by Shinkansen: you board in the morning and get off at a station connected directly to the slopes. This guide covers how to get there, the 2026-27 season dates, lift ticket prices, renting gear and lessons in English. Getting there from Tokyo
Take the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station (or Ueno) to GALA Yuzawa Station. JR East says GALA Yuzawa Station only operates during the winter and spring. If there’s no train to GALA Yuzawa Station at the time you want, ride to Echigo-Yuzawa Station instead. GALA Yuzawa’s access page lists a free shuttle bus from there to the resort, about 10 minutes.
Single tickets: Klook sells Shinkansen tickets from Tokyo or Ueno to GALA Yuzawa, so you can book in English before your trip.
JR TOKYO Wide Pass: this JR East pass costs ¥16,000 for adults (¥8,000 for children 6 to 11) and covers three consecutive days, including the Joetsu Shinkansen to GALA Yuzawa. It can’t be used on the Tokaido Shinkansen. JR East’s own example: a trip from Tokyo to GALA Yuzawa and on to Nikko with reserved seats costs about ¥21,500 at regular fares, against ¥16,000 with the pass.
